The opera that I created and produced with librettist-director Árni Kristjánsson, Þögnin / The Silence opera, was nominated for two awards at Griman, Iceland national stage awards: “Sproti ársins” (innovation in the year) and singer of the year (Björk Níelsdóttir soprano). I am happy to say that we won the award for “Sproti ársins”. Thank you Griman awards and congratulations to everyone who contributed to the show in August last year.
The performers were asked to perform a scene from the opera as part of the award ceremony, and Bjarni Thor bass, Bjork Nielsdottir soprano, Matthildur Anna pianist and Gudny Jonasdottir cellist performed the art song “Vornott” (Spring Night) where Hjalmar (Bjarni Thor bass) relives a beautiful memory of a night him and Arora (Björk Níelsdóttir soprano), a woman he used to love, spent together a long time ago. Learning of her recent passing triggers in him this memory.
The performance was recorded and broadcasted by RÚV, Iceland National Broadcaster.
